Subject: Knee pain

Question
Hello, I am 14 and i train 4 times a week i take running very serious and recently i have been having alot of injuries. I have been having pain in my kneecap and around it and it hurts alot when i bend my knee also when going down the stairs.I can train on it for a about a half an hour but then its starts to flame up, like its burning under the kneecap.

I was told to see someone about orthotics so i did and they said i shouldn't have any more knee but since then the knee pain has got worse.

Do you have any advice on what to do? should i see someone else about it?

cerys

Answer
Hi Cerys
First thing is i would get rid of the orthotics. What you have developed is chondromalacia.A lot of it has to do with tracking of the knee and alignment. The best course of rehabbing is a stationary bike with medium tention and high spin rpm with gradually increasing the tension as your quads get stronger working your way up so your doing 45min 3 to 4 days a week.I have helped many many athletes including my self.If you have a great deal of patience and consistent work ethic you will be fine Cerys and back running with no problems. Please keep me informed how your progressing if you decide to follow this route. If you have any questions just get in touch. You can call me if you like to discuss further Cerys. My number is 505 271 5909 in albuquerque new mexico.

All the very best

John
