Jogging & Running - sharp pain in knee cap

Expert: John DeHart - 8/15/2008

Question
I've been training with a Galloway group for a marathon- the only knee pain I had was after a long run but last week at the end of 10 mile I began feeling a sharp shooting pain in my right knee cap. i slowed down for the last mile- tomorrow Im scheduled to run a 20 mile run- When I ran this week it was still there but not as painful- didnt have to stop my run. Should I be concerned?

Answer
Hi Pandora
You should be concerned, since injuries to the knee are the most commom with runners. The injury that i advise runners on this site the most is chondromalacia which if not addressed quickly can lead to extended rehabbing and more problems. If you have other questions just get in touch.

All the very best

John
