It's my contention that I remember Elton, complete with enormous walrus moustache, performing guest spots on the BBC Tonight program with Cliff Michelmore. My friends say I'm mad. What do you say ? ( or was it maybe the Nationwide program ? )

You're probably right! In 1967 Elton was sporting a walrus moustache and playing with the Simon Dupree band in the British Isles. He may have made some appearances on British TV as well with his stylish facial hair. Check out this website:
