Question I am an optician, and am fascinated by Elton John's many eye glasses. I would like to know how many pairs he has, does he donate them/auction them, and where does he get them? I think it's fantastic that being as famous as he is, he still opts for eye glasses over contacts or LASIK.

I don't know exactly how many pairs Elton has, but I would guess he has a few hundred pairs. If you ever come across the documentary he did, "Tantrums and Tiaras," there is a part where he takes the camera into his traveling closet and shows a large desk with about six drawers full of glasses, all organized by frame color. Also, the May 2000 issue of Architectural Digest has an article on his with one photo of his "glasses room" that displays some of his crazy glasses from the 1970s and 1980s.
Two of the brands he is known to wear is LA Eyeworks and Oliver Peoples. I think he does donate glasses once in awhile; they may have some of his frames at his semi-regular "Out of the Closet" sale where him and his partner sell their clothes for his AIDS foundation.
Finally, he actually has had LASIK surgery. He went ahead with it a few years ago but still wears frames since it's "his look."
