Question
i am only 16 years old and i really enjoy making people laugh all my friends keep encouraging me to become a stand up comedians i think i will love to become a stand up comedian but i don't have a clue where to start can you help?

Answer
Hi Carl,

The best way to start anything is by having a plan of attack.
First you need to put all of your jokes, thoughts, and observations down on paper. Anything that you think might be amusing, write it down. I keep a digital recorder with me at all times; I never know when I’m going to crack myself (or someone else) up.

After you have a good amount of material together you can start working on an act.
You’ll need an act; great comedians have mastered the art of not making it look like they have one, they just go out and do there set and it seems like their talking to you as a person, nothing planned or scripted.

Once you’re comfortable that you have a good set, start practicing, and then practice more, and after that you should defiantly practice more.

You should start looking in your area for, “Open Mic Nights” at clubs. These are nights when they will allow amateur comics try out their material.

Give it a shot and good luck.

Keep me posted as to how it goes.

Best,

Eric

Expertise

I will give advice and try to answer any questions regarding humor, Timing, jokes, developing characters/acts. Or just talk about material.

Experience

I have been around and had a passion for comedy my entire life. From performing to writing for others, there’s nothing I haven’t done (save TV & screen). Comedy has strange healing powers and possesses the ability to bring together people/countries. My heart belongs to comedy and I’d love to help with any dream or endeavor you might have vis-à-vis comedy.
