Joplin, Janis - A possible collaboration with JIm morrison and Jimi Hendrix
Expert: Laura Brown - 4/4/2001
Question I'm a huge fan of Janis and I recently downloaded a song that supposedly is her with Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison; its called "spaceship blues". But I've never heard of it and the singer in the song doesnt sound like any of them, is this a fake or was it actually recorded?

Answer On your queue, I downloaded the song from Napster myself and I can only imagine that since there is only one singer, and that it is in NO way any three of them that it is a tribute song to them. I'm listening to the lyrics and I'm thinking that is the answer.
I've found, in general, which I'm sure you know since you're a fan, that you have to be very very careful with Napster.
My friends and I sometimes refer to it as "the Permeation of Ignorance"....
One person will make the mistake of saying that Janis sang "Son of a Preacher Man" and a hundred ignoramuses will download it :)
There are numerous songs on Napster which are mislabeled as Janis tunes...
Just listen to them and you'll know right away...
In the case of this song, I find that it is not "fake" but a mislabeling...
It probably originally said "Spaceship Blues" about Morrison, Joplin and Hendrix and some dummy changed the name and went onto the Napster server :)
Anyway, Thanks for your question
I hope I've answered it to your satisfaction
Laura
PS Also, from all the information I've absorbed, I don't think that morrison/hendrix/joplin or any combination of the three ever collaborated.... Janis and Jim became drinking buddies tho, so they might have sung in some bar :) Other than that, however, a trio should be questioned right away :)
