About Katherine Bruce
Expertise
My area of expertise is a particular series: The Chalet School, written by Elinor Brent-Dyer between the 1920s and the 1960s. I can probably find out the answers to most question about 'Girls' Own' literature as well.

Experience
My book, Peace Comes to the Chalet School was published in November 2005.

Question
Dear Katherine,
I have already asked your colleague Nicole, but she suggests to ask some of here other collegues, so here goes. Looking for a book tital of a book my girls had in the late 70's 80's we think. What can be remembered about story line is as follows. Boys mother tells him to clean his room whick is a total mess. He begins this job but plays along the way. There is a moose head in the room, and the boy eventually vacumes up the whole mess with a vacume cleaner. Not too much to go on I'l.l admit. I live in Australia, and we had this book in the early eighties. Could you also recomend anywhere in Aus that I could place a search. Thank you, I would appreciate your help on this one

Answer
Hi Jenny

Possiblilities include:

The awful mess / Anne Rockwell (1973) Parents magazine press Though his family only sees an awful mess, Olly knows his room contains a cave with wild animals, a traffic jam, and a tunnel to crawl through.
and
The Marvelous Mess / Joan Drescher (1980) A small boy creates a fantastic mess in his room, and though his parents order him to clean it up, he merely conceals it for the moment.

Hope this helps!
