About Josiah Jones
Expertise
I can answer a wide variety of questions about children's literature from almost any time period. My mind is particularly sharp with small details of the literature in question, and I have an extensive personal library of children's literature to reference should the need arise. I am ready and willing to tackle any question that is brought to me. My strongest facet of expertise is probably recommending books for kids and teens.

Experience
I am a reviewer of books for young readers on the WWW.Goodreads.Com website. I have most likely read more than 1,000 children's books, and I also write stories of my own for young readers.

Juvenile & Children`s Books - 1960's children's book

Expert: Josiah Jones - 10/30/2009

Question
Josiah, I am trying to locate a book that was my very favorite when I was growing up. Have had no luck. It was called "Millie," and it had a yellow cover -- I think -- and was about a pioneer girl. Her older brother's name in the story, I believe, was Theron. She had blonde braids and was quite resourceful. The book cover was illustrated with pen-and-ink drawing. This book would have been available for kids between about 1961-68. It could have been written earlier, I'm not sure. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Laura,

It seems that the book you mention bears many similarities to an 1876 Martha Finley novel and its subsequent sequels, which are sometime known as the "Original Elsie Dinsmore Classics."

Here is a link to a page that features many of these titles:

It would also appear that a much later book series has been derived from these early juvenile pioneer stories, and the newer series seems to have first been published in our current decade.

I hope that this is what you were trying to find. Thanks for the question, and if you ever want to ask me anything else, I'd be glad to render assistance.

 Josiah
