I have been looking for this book for ages!  I know exactly what Nikki is talking about.  There is actually a house along highway 280 in Northern California that was built to look exactly like the ones that the blobs built in the book.  I just moved back to CA and am tempted to knock on the door of this house and ask them if they know the book, wrote it, have a copy!

There is a great webpage called Stump the Bookseller at Loganberry Books where, for two dollars, you can post your questions about books with forgotten  authors or title information.  Readers help solve your mystery and, if available, you can even purchase a copy!

He's a big purple alien blob with a family of little multi-colored blobs. If you search for the word "Barbapapa" you will find the books.

Was there a book where they have to leave earth and go back to their home planet, but then earth has too much pollution  and the come back and make it green again?

OMG!!  I too have looked for this book for YEARS with only the memory of colorful blobs!  I could remember where they were shelved in my elementary school library but had no clue what they were called.  I am 39 now with twin 2 year olds so I really wanted to find the books I remember loving so much to share with them!  I hope they are as enjoyable as I remember them being!?  Thank you all so much for solving that mystery!

I thought it was a book in my imagination!!! I am so happy to see that I wasn't the only one who remembered this book and loved it dearly.  Thanks for those who suggested names. I will gladly do some searching and if I find it I will let everyone know.

Barnes and Noble website sells these books. However, they are considered collectible and rare so the prices are a bit high.  They also steer you towards bookstores that carry them directly so maybe you can contact the bookstores to wheel and deal.  Good luck!!!

I have also looked for this series of books. If I ever find any information on them I will post here.  They really were good books. I'd like to be able to share with my own kids now.

I have a copy of this book.  My Mother died recently and we bought this book in the late 60's or early 70's.  It has been a favorite of my children too. What a ghost gonna do?  I am selling a lot of these books on Amazon.  Cleaning out her house and we have boxes of weekly reader books from the 1970's.
