Expert: Man Date: 1/6/2006 Subject: Herm Edwards / KC
Question I would like to know how Herm Edwards will fit with the current talent on the team. What kind of game does he call, especially when the Chiefs have been among the top offenses in the league. Does he run more? Larry Johnson is a horse. Does he focus more on defense or offense? Thanks
Answer Hopefully Herm Edwards doesn't change much with the offense. Don't fix what ain't broke, right? In New York they ran the west coast offense, but that's what fits Chad Pennington. They should keep the same offense in KC since all of the players are familiar with it and it is very successful (the #1 offense in the NFL for the past few years).
Herm does run the ball since he's had Curtis Martin in NY. He should use Larry Johnson.
As far as defense or offense, before becoming head coach he was a defensive coach in Tampa Bay. He was a defensive back in the NFL, so his roots are on the defensive side of the ball. In Tampa he was an Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Backs coach. In KC, he was a pro scout and defensive backs coach.
