Question
hi,I'm doing a project for college and it would be my first one as I am moving up from secondary school. But do you know what Kenya's main employment is ? and what is a main employment anyway?thanks X

Answer
Hi Abigail,
congratulations on the move on up!! All the best with college, I'm sure it'll be a breeze once you get the hang of it.
Well, in Kenya, it would be hard to peg what the main employment is. Main employment is the sector to which the highest number of working people are employed. We have a lot of casual labourers, maybe over one million. Then there are those employed in the civil service, and work for the government. These are officers in various government ministries (I think they are 22 or 27), teachers, those who work in government parastatals, nurses, and so on.
Then we have the privat sector, which employs the least number of people. These are accountants, doctors and nurses, publishers, and so on. All those who work for private companies. Jobs here are few and for those with specialised skills. So many people lose out as higher education is still a bit out of reach for most of us.
Hope that helps. If not, let me know and I'll work on seeking more information.
