Question hi,
my parents want to buy a house in kenya for when they finally retire from work in about 2 yrs.they want one away from the capital city of nairobi because they want to be away from the noise and pollution they lived in all their lives (they lived in new jersey)...how would they go about this
Answer Hi Berry,
That's a grand plan, I think. They would be best off buying a house in the Kenyan highlands (Central province). It's really a tranquil place and not too much tourist interest, unlike the coast. Western province would also be a nice place. I come fron Nyeri (in central Kenya) and I think it's the prettiest, green, fresh place ever.
Your folks could use a real estate agent, but they would have to check them out thoroughly. Many are quacks, out to make a quick killing. Also, google Laws of Kenya, and find the Kenya laws website to check out any legal issues concerning land and real estate, given your parents would be considered immigrants. There are resident permits to consider, and citizenship status too.
If you want, your parents can come up with a list of real estate agents they find, and I can check them out for you from my end, as I would have easier access to their offices. It would minimise the chances of getting conned.
Best regards.
