About Frank Omondi
Expertise
Since 2000, I have worked extensively in this field, conserving wildlife and directing safaris in Kenya and Tanzania. My experiance in this field gives me confidence in answering questions on travel, culture and wildlife Conservation.

Experience
I was previleged to serve on the board of Youth for Conservation, a Kenyan not-for-profit wildlife conservation organization, which accorded me an opportunity to collaborate with the local communities and advocate for better wildlife policies in Kenya. Recently, I traveled to the United States and the United Kingdom, where I lectured on wildlife conservation in Africa at Western Kentucky University and at a London celebration of the Born Free Foundation’s 21st year. Before establishing The Old Line Safari Company, I led treks to Kenya and Tanzania for IntoAfrica Eco-Travel Kenya and Tanzania, Ltd. I earned my BSc in Wildlife Management at Moi University.

Subject: children on safari

Question
what age do you think children should be to go safari.

Answer
Thanks Dick:

A safari is wonderful for children old enough to enjoy and appreciate the experience. Its adviceable that you bring children above 5 years, however with very good planning you could bring children at 2 years.

Depending on the itinerary, many safaris (e.g., Adventure Safaris) involve a long trip on rough roads, which we cannot recommend for babies, young children, and the elderly. but some companies offer Family Safaris and Luxury Safaris, however, which blend road and air transport, that are carefully planned to ensure the comfort of children and the elderly.

Children under 12 years benefit from reduced fares on scheduled airlines and at all lodges. A few of the more expensive permanent tented camps prohibit children under 12. Restrictions on certain activities also apply for younger children, so kindly check before booking. Please carry enough baby food and accessories, which might be unavailable on safari. Special meals for babies cannot be guaranteed.

Best wishes,

Frank Omondi
