Question
My friend has just re-built his PC after a virus problem, and has WinXP Home.  The O/S boots perfectly and soon displays the desktop.  However, the mouse appears to have frozen up on him, and although he can see the arrow, he cannot move it or click to the small submenus normally possible.  The mouse is a PS2 type I believe, and  connects via its cable in the normal PS2 fashion.  He's tried turning off and reinserting the mouse cable then re-booting, but nothing.  He's also tried a different but same style mouse.
Any ideas here?

Many thanks, Mike

Answer
Without knowing what he has done for the rebuild I cannot be of too much help, but one thing for sure to do is to go into ControlPanel/system/hardware/deviceManager and remove the mouse entirely. Then do a cold reboot (power off then on) and let WinXP install a driver for the mouse. That might take care of the problem.

One thing he should have done as part of his rebuild was to have upgraded to WinXP Pro since WinXP Home is a horrible OS.

Hope this helps ... Gary
