Subject: PS2 devices not working

Question
On a Windows XP Pro PC, I have installed a Windows Office keyboard (software IntelliType Pro v5.2) and also a Microsoft wireless mouse (software IntelliPoint v5.2): both are USB devices.  I now have a new PC and want to switch them both to the new machine and go back to the PS2 devices on the old PC.

I expected that the PS2 devices would work alongside their USB counterparts (they don't),  I have tried unplugging the USB mouse and uninstalling IntelliPoint and restarting with just the PS2 mouse.  On the first try XP finds the mouse and loads the driver (Device manager says it is working properly), however the mouse does not function.

I have not messed with the keyboard as I need an input device.

I have noticed that the PS2 keyboard lights up and appears to function up until XP initially loads (and asks for my password). My sense is that the PS2 devices are getting turned off at this point.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Question: Did you actually uninstall the USB mouse device in Device Manager? Uninstalling the software does not actually remove the mouse as a device. Uninstalling the device may solve your problem.

If you did, and based on all you have explained, are you certain the old PS2 mouse is itself functioning correctly?

Let me know ... Gary
