Question Sometimes the USB optical mouse that is attach to my Toshiba Satellite Notebook can't move suddenly. But keypad works find. Can't even do a restart nor shut down notebook. Have to force it by pressing Power Button for a few seconds. After restarting, the mouse seems to work again for a few days before this problem happens again. Running on Win XP. Thanks.
Answer If your keyboard works you should be able to access the Start menu to shut down. You can use your arrow keys to move to the Shut Down and press the Enter key. Also Ctrl-Alt-del brings up the Task Manager window from which you can Alt-S to select shut down.
As for the mouse, the only thing I can suggest at this point is to 1) be certain the USB plug is always firmly inserted - they can become loose over time, especially on a laptop. And 2) search for an updated driver for your mouse on the Internet from the mouse manufacturer's site.
