Question
I have a compaq presario 900 laptop (Windows XP hOME VERSION 2002). A few of my keyboARD key's meanings and shortcuts have gotten lost i.e some of the keys dont do the fucntion they are suppose to do. Example: the page down key takes you just an alpabet ahead, F4 key does not repeat the last function but takes the laptop into hibernation, the left arrow button shows me the save as window, the right arrow button takes me to page down...and a few other shortcuts are all lost. ALL THE ALPHABETS WORK FINE. Space caps tab etc alos work fine. This problem stays whatever im working on -word, excell, ppt, or even when im on my email account typing a mail.i went into word and i tried resetting keyboard shortcuts, it did not help.i WANT THE keyboard to behave in the way it should usually do.Please let me knwo if you know any way of fixing the problem, thankyou soooooooooo much.

Answer
You have applied keyboard key reassignments through a kayboard macro utility probably from Compaq. As you state, they have become currupted. The best fix is to reset all key assignments to their default settings. This is an issue specific to your model and I cannot answer directly without having the model in front of me. The links below should provide your answer ... you will need to give more specific model info at the support site.

(if the above URL does not show as a clickable link, just copy/paste the entire link to your browser's address line)

and this is the support start page URL. Compaq is owned by Hewlitt-Packard now.

I know what the problem is and the solution but it is model and utility-specific. I am sorry I could not answer your question directly. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance with this annoying problem. - Gary
