Question
im doing karate for 5years i went to my first kickboxing lesson and iwas impressed with what i saw im think about changing to kickboxing what do you think

Answer
Hello Tony,
Thank you for your question. Having a karate background will give you an edge in class but depending on what style of kickboxing you may have to learn to kick different. In karate you use the instep to kick with but in muay thai kickboxing we use our shin. The reason behind that is that if you hit something solid with your instep your foot may break or ankle. Using a shin is a solid bone that can do more damage to your target than yourself. I studied karate for 4 years and then went on to compete in muay thai and became a 3 time world champion. i currently hold a 4th degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and a 6th degree in Shaolin Kempo. i'm also a professional boxer. So, do the art that best expresses you and you have the most interest in.
I hope i answered your question. Good Luck, keep in touch and let me know how it goes.

Keep Punching and Kicking,

Heath "Cowboy" Harris
