Question
My husband put some lotion from Bath & Body Works on my 12 month old son. Now he is covered in a rash from head to toe, especially on his face. He told me he barely put any on him. Could the rash really have come from the lotion? What do I need to do?

Answer
Hi Casey,

Sorry to hear of your son's rash! The lotion is a likely cause. Young children are especially sensitive to perfumed lotions. I would give him some Benadryl (you can check out Dr. Sears pediatric dosing site for an appropriate dose--it is all weight based :http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T088800.asp) and, of course no more lotion. The Benadryl should clear it up within a day or so. If not, or if he has any difficulty breathing, then call his doctor.

Good luck!

Best,
Dr. Tara Kompare, Pharm.D.
