Question I bought a protein shake that is for men trying to build muscle but I am wondering if it is ok to give some to my toddler (22 months). How much protein is too much for a toddler?
Answer Hi Sherrie,
Great question and I am glad you asked this.
The exact protein requirements for children are weight based so I can not comment on his particular requirements without his weight. What I can say, however, is that a protein drink intended for use by an adult male is not suitable for a 22 month old child. There are often a variety of other substances in these shakes that could be harmful to young children, especially children under the age of two.
I hope this helps. Take care!
Best,
Dr. Tara Kompare, Pharm.D.
