I do not know many multiplayer games, and I'm not sure how old are you and what your kind of interests are.
However, I know sometimes you can compete against others in some games on www.miniclip.com .
Another site to play with other people around the world would be www.webkinz.com , but that requires you to buy a Webkinz stuffed animal (which range from about $5-$20 approx.) that comes with an activation code. It also cancels your account if you don't buy and activate a webkinz by the time your account expires.
www.toontown.com is a very fun site to play with others to complete "toontasks" to work on your toon. You can't do much on it, but you can have a free account and receive some nice limited features. If you would like to become a paying member it could be pretty pricey. Price ranges vary. It also requires you to download the program. I have not heard of the program having viruses, so I wouldn't be hesitating to download it.
