About Marissa M. Expertise Hi! I am currently seventeen years old. I have gone through a lot in my life. I have been through family problems. I have dealt with self esteem issues and depression. I have been a gifted student. I understand where people are coming from. I am lucky enough to have been granted a good brain, and so I would love to share it with you. I am studying to be a teacher and so I would be happy to tutor you online if you want. I will offer my advice on any question. I would also love to just talk to you about your life. I know what it is like to not have anyone to tell how you are feeling. I'm willing to listen.
Experience I am a teenager! Also, I am currently taking college classes dealing with things like education and children. I have also been involved with volunteer children's groups for years.
Question OK, HI and i appreciate grownup-ups like you are willing to help us kids. I have the FCAT ( Florida Comprehension Assessment Test) in 19 days and I have my audition for South Miami Middle in two days, I have tons of homework, want to loose some weight, take care of my bored ( and boring) dogs and help my sis. on her homework and want to have time to play too. I have prepared myself for the big test for months , but still don't feel confident. To enter South Miami I have to know a whole monologue and how to act it. I have to tune a song and to make my time more limited, dance. How can I do it all? Help me. Quickly
Answer The first thing you have to do is decide on what is most important to you. At this point, you should probably focus on your South Miami audition first, as it is the most pressing for your future. Decide how much free time you have over the next two days.
Three Quarters (75%) of that time should go to working on your audition. If your audition parts are connected, I would simply find a movie that has people singing in it and pick a part where a song flows right into a monologue, or vice versa. If they are disconnected, try to pick a completely different song and monologue.
For example: you might choose The Little Mermaid, at the part where she is in her underground cavern. Learn that monologue she says and the song that comes right after.
If they aren't supposed to be connected, try for different pieces. If you are better at acting happy, pick a happy monologue, and a sad song. (Such as the monologue from Alice In Wonderland [not the movie version] where she falls down the rabbit hole and the song When There Was Me And You from High School Musical). Try to decide your best way of acting (happy, sad, mad, excited) and pick a corresponding monologue. Then choose a song with a completely different type of emotion.
Then all you can do is study hard! (Hopefully you already have your things picked out, in which case all you have to do is study! Have your mom, dad, or sister listen to you preform a couple times so they can help you with any problems)
The other quarter (25%) of the time, you want to spend on your homework, sister, and dog. Forget about your weight and the FCAT for right now. You can work on them in a few days.
The most important thing is to do your homework. Make a set time for it everyday, either when you come home from school or before you go to bed, and just sit down and work on it.
When you finish, help your sister with hers. If you both do it at the same time and in the same place, she can ask you questions as you work and you will probably both finish at the same time. This means more time for other things and less time waiting on her.
The last thing you wanna forcus on is your dogs. If you can find 30 minutes a day to take care of your dogs, they will be fine. If your chores include feeding them, you probably have spent 10 minutes right there. Try to take them for a walk or run with them for 20 minutes. If nothing else, toss a stick or ball for them to fetch while you do something else. You could even have fun while doing it if you listen to some music or read a good book.
That should help you until you get past your audition. Once your audition is over, take a deep breath and relax! Spend the rest or the weekend how you wanna spend it. Take 30 minutes a day with the dogs, 30 minutes helping your sister, and probably another 30 minutes or so on your homework. The rest of the time you should goof off and have fun!
Then come Monday you want to buckle down again. Spend 25% of your time studying for the FCAT (try online sites like this: http://www.testprepreview.com/fcat_practice.htm for practice questions, and google fcat practice to find more sites). Spend another 25% of your time doing your homework and your sisters homework. And then spend 25% of your time losing weight and playing with your dogs. Take the last 25% of your time and do whatever you want!
How would this work? Say you come home from school at about 3:00 PM, eat dinner at 6:00 PM, and go to bed at 9:00 PM.
From 3-4 you would do your homework and help your sister with hers.
From 4-5 you would play with your dogs and work on losing weight.
From 5-6 you would do your FCAT practice.
From 6-7 you would eat.
From 7-8:30 you would do whatever you want.
And from 8:30-9 you would get ready for bed.
Easy right? And it gets even easier. If you combine your weight loss efforts with playing with your dogs, you can cut you time even shorter. By taking your dogs for a walk, playing fetch with them, or doing anything active with them you will be getting exercise. By getting an extra 30 minutes of exercise a day you could easily lose more than 10 pounds in a year. Have your sister play with you guys too and you have also helped her exercise and made her feel loved (and kept her off your back when she wants to play later and you are busy-all you have to do is remind her you already played with her!).
And if you exercise before you do your homework or FCAT practice, your brain will get more oxygen and blood flowing to it and it will make you learn faster and easier. Really!
And don't worry about your FCAT scores. I would say that if you normally get at least a C on your in-class tests, you will pass the FCAT with no problem! I took it myself, so I know! Go Florida! :)
Good luck! And please, let me know how everything goes!
