Subject: over the stove top microwave

Question
We just purchased a GE model over the stove microwave but found that the depth of the product (16")will stick out too much.  We have only an 11.5" depth from the back wall to the end of the cabinets.  How can we find a vented microwave with the dimensions we require?

Answer
Kathy,

The GE over the range (OTR) you described is a normal size.  Keep in mind most range hoods also project beyond the face of the cabinets.

The reason for the OTR doing this is two fold.  1)  This is your ventilation and needs to be able to move air and needs to create air movement above all four burners.  2)  If the microwave was only 11 1/2" on the outside, it would be much smaller on the inside and not fit many of your microwaveable dishes.

Hope this puts your mind at ease.

Thanks,

Craig Alan Berberich
