Kitchen Design/Remodeling - Kitchen backsplash

Expert: Van Wilson - 10/24/2009

Question
We want to install a backsplash on a wall where the countertop extends out about 18" farther than the wall cabinets above it. We are using 1" glass tiles. What is the best way to end the backsplash? In other words, how do we bridge that gap? The only thing we can think of is to step down one tile at a time. Is there a better way? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Cathy,

Depending on what the edge of your tile looks like would depend on what you can do to finish the edge of your back splash.  For example if the edge of your tile is smooth clear glass you can use the step down method.

If the edge is frosted instead of clear you may want to consider using a bullnose edging to give the back splash a professional look.  My advice is to take some tiles to a tile distributor and they will be able to help you make the right choice for your project.

I wish you well,

Van
