Question QUESTION: Hi Van,
I have a client who bought a stove that’s a little wider than the opening in the counter top and back-splash by a half inch. I said I would cut it for her next week but now I’m thinking of how I’m going to do it. It is a laminate, Formica top.
I was thinking of cutting a line with a utility knife, and then tape the line with masking tape and using a small circular saw. What do you think so far?
Now the saw will only go so far. I could cut the rest with a hand saw, but how do I cut the backsplash and not damage the wall?
Thanks,
Randy,

ANSWER: Hi Randy,
What style of stove did your client buy? Free standing,or Drop In. It does make a difference on how the cabinets are configured and exactly what and how much will have to be cut to get the new stove to fit. What style is being replaced?
I await your reply,
Van

QUESTION: Hi Van,
Not sure. I'll ask the client and get back to you.
Thanks,
Randy
Answer Randy,
If you have never had any previous experience cutting cabinets and countertops I would not start out on this project, because it is very easy to miscut a backsplash or a cabinet style or damage a wall that will have to be repaired and if you are not able to complete this to the homeowners satisfaction you could be facing a law suit.
I suggest you get a professional cabinet maker in your area to do this for you. It will save alot more than time.
