About Lesley Arnold-Hopkins
Expertise
I can answer questions on all types of knitting on needles (ie not loom knitting) including Fairisle, intarsia, lace and basic knitwear design. I can also answer on crochet, including tapestry crochet, but I do not have sufficient knowledge of toys or stuffed animals to call myself an expert.

Experience
I've been knitting and crocheting for over 35 years. In that time I have made a variety of items, incorporating a range of stitch techniques and have designed my own garments. I have had patterns published in the UK (crochet and knitting) and teach both crafts.

Education/Credentials
BA(Hons)Open (not related to knitting or crochet, but shows my highest level of education)

Knitting - Adding on Stitches

Expert: Lesley Arnold-Hopkins - 10/11/2009

Question
I have a t-top sweater pattern that says to "add on" numerous stitches (28) after the body of the sweater is knitted.  These added stitches will be for the sleeves.  How do you go about adding  that many stitches? I tried increasing the number of stitches but it did not create the length for sleeves.  How do I add the stitches?

Answer
Hello Diana,

Thanks for your question.

Most of the t-top patterns that I've seen suggest casting on the number of stitches, rather than trying to do increases.

Whether the 28 stitches is on each side, or in total, will depend on the rest of the instructions.

I hope that this helps, but please come back to me if anything is unclear.

Thanks

Lesley
