I can answer questions about machine knitting. I am familiar with most made-in-Japan machines, main beds and ribbers. I am most familiar with Studio and Brother. I am not familiar with Passap.

I was a Studio and a Brother dealer for ten years in Wisconsin. I still knit and design every day.

Knitting - buying a second hand knitting machine

Expert: Carol Forbes - 10/27/2009

Question
Im trying to buy a second hand knitting machine. I wont use it too much or for anything too fiddley. All I want to do is knit plain and some fairisle ( i dont mind about floats). Ive seen a knitmaster sk151 on sale near me but cant find any information about whether I can do fairisle. Can you tell me what it's limited to?

Answer
I do not know for sure but I did find this reference to a 151 using Google

Knitmaster (Chunky Gauge) Machines
KM 151 (Basic without pattern mechanism)    from £165
KM 155 (Punchcard)    from £245

I would say this machine would only do the stockinette stitch.  You can use a plain machine like this to make lace by hand-moving stitches.  No machine that I know of can be programed to do a cable but any machine can be used to make a cable by hand-moving stitches.  Knitting machine cannot make true ribbing without a ribber but you can run a stitch and latch up on the other side to make ribbing.

Hope this helps.

Carol
