Knitting - neck edge

Expert: Frances Rhea - 10/5/2009

Question
hi,

i am knitting a sweater for my grandbaby and and I am just stuck on the neck edge.  it says......bind off 5 sts, work to end, which i have done. Then I assume I now do a purl row.  Then it says......bind off from neck edge 2 sts twice, 2 sts twice - 19 sts ( I assume I will have 19 sts on needle)

I am so confused.  thanks for any help ......Sherry

Answer
The area you are working on evidently has a neck edge and a shoulder edge. When you start the row at the neck edge you bind off, that is what "bind off from neck edge 2 sts twice" means. When you have completed the two additional bindoffs, you should have 19 sts on your needle. This means the above directions are actually 5 rows of the pattern. The purl row you indicate is when your row starts on the shoulder edge.

Hope this helps.

Fran
