Knitting - selvage knit stitch

Expert: Deborah Mason - 10/15/2009

Question
if directions say knit 100  do you count the selvage stitch as part of 100 or just knit/slip it then start count?
thank you!

Answer
Hi Peg,

Sorry it took me so long to answer - my holiday ended up going on for longer than planned.  In most patterns the selvage stitch is included in the total number of stitches specified.  So with your example of 100 stitches you would probably be s1, pattern 98, k1 (depending on how the designer intends you to do the selvage stitch).
