Question
Following an aran pattern in a hayfield pattern book. The aran pattern is 8 rows. my stitches are 58. pattern says continue in pattern. work 20 rows increasing 1 stitch at each end of next and
every following 8th row to 76 stitches. how can you get 18 extra
stitches out of 20 rows.

Answer
Hi Elizabeth,
It could be that the designer intended you to knit an "opening row" before you started increasing and a "closing row" at the end. The important thing is that you end up with the right number of stitches (76) when you finish!
Thanks!
Sam

Expertise

I can answer any questions related to hand knitting. I'm very familiar with all sorts of stitches and techniques and can help troubleshoot or get you through sticky spots when it comes to figuring out a pattern or figuring out how to write your own.

Experience

I've been knitting since the seventh grade and although I'm perfectly capable of following a pattern I prefer to free-style most of my work.

Education/Credentials
I've taught myself how to knit from countless library and second-hand books and help from friends and relatives, but I've never taken a knitting class.
