Knitting - scarf

Question
QUESTION: I have knitted a scarf for my son in stocking stitch pattern. The problem is that scarf is curling up. I have washed it and pressed flat under weight while drying but it curled back as soon as I removed the weights after two days of drying. Is there anyway I can stop it from curling up without re-knitting the whole thing in some other pattern.

kind regards
Seema

ANSWER: When you knit something you do not want to curl, it is best to slip the first stitch instead of working it. If you do this on the first stitch of each row, the edges will be tighter than if knitted as most directions call for.

Now that it is done, the best way to fix it is to crochet an edge around the outside using these simple directions:

1. Attach yarn to any corner by pulling a loop through the edge.
2. Ch1, sc in next space (close), ch 1, * sc slightly farther away to pull some of the ruffling smoother, ch 1. Repeat from * to corner.
3. sc in corner, ch 1, sc in same space.
4. Repeat step 2, then step 3 around until you reach where you started.
5. Sl st in top of first sc you created.

Tips: Try to use the same number of sc stitches on each corresponding side to make the scarf even.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thanks very much for your answer. I do not know crochet at all. Could you please explain what does sc mean. I am also concerned that if crochet edge won't make it very feminine or do you think it will look ok for a 28 years old guy.

Answer
A sc or single crochet, ch or chain 1 edging is the simplest to make, and is suitable for a man's scarf.

Crochet, especially this edging, should be fairly easy for you to learn. Here is a link:

If you are creative, maybe you could come up with a some other simple idea.

Sorry...
