AboutLesley Arnold-Hopkins Expertise I can answer questions on all types of knitting on needles (ie not loom knitting) including Fairisle, intarsia, lace and basic knitwear design. I can also answer on crochet, including tapestry crochet, but I do not have sufficient knowledge of toys or stuffed animals to call myself an expert.
Experience I've been knitting and crocheting for over 35 years. In that time I have made a variety of items, incorporating a range of stitch techniques and have designed my own garments. I have had patterns published in the UK (crochet and knitting) and teach both crafts.

Question Hi i am knitting a baby dress. So far i have done ok but i am up to the neck shaping and i am very lost. The pattern says;
Neck Shaping
Work 13 sts in patt, place these sts on a holder, Bo 9, work to end in patt. Turn and work 1 row even.
Bo 3 sts at beg next row. work 1 row even. Bo 2 sts at beg next row. work 1 row even. Bo 2 sts at beg of next row. work 1 row even. Bo 1 st at beg next row. work 1 row even.
Rejoin yarn and repeat shaping for other side, reverse shaping.
I have knitted the patt in stocking st as directed and completed the left front neck shaping and shoulder but i have no idea how to rejoin yarn for right front neck shaing and shoulder and reverse shaping. I have had a go but cannot work out how to Bo at the end of a row it doesn't seem to make sense to me. can you please help?
Answer Hi Amy.
Thanks for your question.
The rather crucial bit of info that the pattern has neglected to tell you, is that you have two choices - either re-join the yarn at the neck side of the piece and work one row before starting the shaping, or put your stitches back onto your needles in such a way that you can re-join your yarn at the arm side, and work from there.
If it was an adult sweater, it would be less of an issue, but as it's a baby sweater (and you have fewer rows) , I would recommend the second option. Either way, you'll be doing your bind offs at the beginning of your purl rows.
I hope that this makes sense, but if anything is unclear, please get back in touch.
