I can answer questions about machine knitting. I am familiar with most made-in-Japan machines, main beds and ribbers. I am most familiar with Studio and Brother. I am not familiar with Passap.

I was a Studio and a Brother dealer for ten years in Wisconsin. I still knit and design every day.

Knitting - Knitting Machine Question

Expert: Carol Forbes - 7/27/2009

Question
I have a Brother 810 RrIBBING ATTACHMENT it is correct for my knitter. I am unable to get it to engage to rib. First pass seems to be ok but I am unable to knit back. Do I need to engage or disengage something? Used this machine 20 yrs ago but got dumb. Please advise or tell me who to contact for info.
Thank You

Answer
Put a few needles in work on both beds.  Release the ribber to the lowest position.  Remove any yarn from the machine. Move the main bed carriage left and right a few times.  If this checks out that's good.  If not, make sure the main bed carriage is seated properly on the rails.  Or take off the silver ribber arm and put it back on making sure it is seated solidly.  Always check the retainer bar on the main bed.  If that is "flat" the machine does weird things.

If the main bed checks out, try moving the ribber carriage back and forth over a few needles without any yarn.  You could have a bent needle on either bed.

Push the ribber up to the highest position and engage the carriages.  If they don't fit you might have the silver ribber arm on wrong.  Make sure you have the ribber clamped to the table tightly.

Look at the the left side of the machine and check to see that you are on P5 or H5.  If you are using every other needle you need P5; if you are doing double bed with every needle you will need H5.

I can't think of anything else to try.  Hope this helps.  If not, try asking Charlene Schafer at the Knit Knack shop in Peru Indiana.
