Knitting/understanding pattern

Quite some  years back I started knitting a women's sweater and finished the  back. Recently, I found where I started the front and decided to finish it.. I have struggled over and over how to move from the 96 ((106) stitches that I had cast on, and in rib stitch made a band of 6cm.
The next row is my states the following.
Rib 1(6), M1, rib 4,(5) *M1,rib 5, rep from * ending last rep rib 1 (5)....116 (126) **
i started with 96 stitches but assuming the amount of stitches I would end up with is supposed to be 116, I cannot get that many
I woud very much like to know why I am not understanding as I must have once been able to complete the back which is the same...
Very grateful if you can advise me on this.

knit stitch 1, make 1 = 2 stitches
do stitch 2,3,4,5, m1 = 7 stitches
do stitch 13 stitches
do stitches 11,12,13,14,15,m1 = 19 stitches
do stitches 16,17,18,19,20,m1 = 25 stitches
do stitches 21,22,23,24,25,m1 = 31
         26,27,28,29,30, m1 = 37
         31,32,33,34,35,m1 = 43
         36,37,38,39,40,m1 = 49
         41,42,43,44,45,m1 = 55
         46,47,48,49,50,m1 = 61
         51,52,53,54,55,m1 = 67 m1 = 73
         61, 62,63,64,65 m1 = 79
         66,67,68,69,70,m1 = 85
         71,72,73,74,75,m1 = 91
         76,77,78,79,80,m1 = 97
         81,82,83,84,85,m1 = 103
         86, 87,88,89,90,m1 = 109
         91,92,93,94,95 m1 = 115  +96= 116 stitches

I can answer questions about machine knitting. I am familiar with most made-in-Japan machines, main beds and ribbers. I am most familiar with Studio and Brother. I am not familiar with Passap.

I was a Studio and a Brother dealer for ten years in Wisconsin. I still knit and design every day.
