Question
Pattern says first and next following 3 alternate rows pearl and another says first and next 4 alternate rows pearl, what does it mean. Thank you.

Answer
First and following 3 alternate rows pearl means
row 1: pearl.  Row 3: Pearl.  Row 5: Pearl.  Row 7: Pearl.

First and next 4 alternate rows pearl means
row 1: pearl.  Row 3: Pearl.  Row 5: Pearl.  Row 7: Pearl.  Row 9: Pearl

Hope this helps.  Some patterns must just try to make it difficult <grin>.
