Subject: Meaning of Korean name

Question
My daughter who is 8 is wondering the meaning of her Korean name "So Yun".  I have tried to find out the meaning but have been unable to.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Gerri,

I have received several time these kind of questions. Always I feel that I'm sorry for that because I can't give them clear answers. We Koreans have used the Korean language with the Chinese letters for a long time. Therefore, the same characters in Korean have different meanings in Chinese. Your girl's name, "So Youn" is only general meanings widely used in Korea. So Yun means that she is very beauty and has a smile face.
