Question QUESTION: I am a 25 year old WHo wants to start doing wushu.I'm 6 feet 3 inches tall, medium build with average flexibilty&fitness.Which style would best suit my body type?
ANSWER: Hello Lain,
Thank you for the question. I think that your body type could fit just about any style of self defense. I think the question you should be asking is, what is the ultimate reason for learning martial arts?
Is it mainly for learning to defend yourself on the street?
Is it mainly to create skills to compete against another in tournaments?
Is it mainly to create overall balance and health?
By answering each one of these questions for yourself you can better determine what martial art is best for you. Once you do this, re-submit the question to me and I will try and help you with your choice.
I look forward to hearing back from you!
Tony

QUESTION: Hello again, The main reason would be for overall health & to fuse my body, mind, spirit & to generally feel better* also would like to add i read alot and am mostly interested in Chinese martial arts i.e-Kung fu but was wanting to know which style would best suit me.Internal or external+which style within those two different types. Thanks for replying
Iain
Answer Hello Lian,
For overall health and well being I would recommend one of the more internal (softer) arts such as aikido, tai chi, or possibly the Wushu styles. From those three suggestions there are many variations of them but all focus on internal power, health and wellness rather than the external (hard) aspects of martial arts.
I hope this moves you in the right direction and thank you for following up on your initial question!
