Question Hello.
I just want to ask if there really is an internal power in us called chi that if controlled correctly can make us perform nearly super human feats. Some personal experience, documentary, videos or testings that prove/ disprove the existence of chi would be great.
Answer Hi Gabriel,
Thanks for choosing allexperts and me for your question.
Well, I can tell you very simply that there is not proof at this point in time. If there were "Imperial proof" then it would be a known, accepted and quantified form of energy. No mean's of quantifying it has been come up with. There are amazing things that people do, the question becomes ascertaining what agent behind those things which makes them happen. Is it some form of mind over matter? sheer adrenaline? is it perfect and synergistic body mechanics? is it a matter of survival mechanism that allows us to overlook what we perceive as the body’s inability to do certain things? or does some other agent within the body enter into the picture and accomplish these things. We have heard the story of the woman lifting the car off of her child to save him, not thinking that such a thing is an impossibility for her to do, she only knows she has to do it. We have heard of the person in the burning building ripping the bars out of the window with their bare hands to escape, again, not considering that such a thing might be considered impossible. Of course, there are martial artists that can also accomplish seemingly impossible or near impossible things. Again, is some agent we have as yet to quantified active? Or is it some other known mechanism within the body helping us to do these things? At this point all we can fall back on is anecdotal information which is referred to as "Imperical evidence". For the most part, repeating some of this under lab conditions might be unsuccessful or hit and miss. So, all I can tell you is, I am not sure. I know that there are things we can do when we follow certain steps, but I don't have a way of telling you what it is within my body that helps accomplish these things. I can't tell you if it is some as yet unknown or unmeasured process or if it is some biomechanical process. Because there is no Imperial, only Imperical evidence does not invalidate the possibility, it just remains unproven.
If chi does not exist it will be hard to disprove it. You cannot disprove a negative. So all that can be done is to continue to look, with an open mind, for the answer. We know that something is taking place, so eventually the method will/may be ascertained. Eventually a method to measure it will be secured. If there were some smoking gun, videos, tests, etc., then we would be closer to discovering and quantifying what is going on. There are video's of unusual things out there, however you have to be very careful of them because there is a lot of faking taking place. People are very clever and good at faking things. You can't allow your mind to wag into the extremes of blind acceptance OR complete and outright skepticism. You must also keep the mind open to the fact that some of what you will see is fake. Some scientists can be very tunnel visioned though, they can be confronted with the proof of something, a process or happening, they can even witness it. But because of their bent for wanting to know the nuts and bolts of a process they refuse to accept and acknowledge what they have witnessed.
For instance, when pills are being tested, consider the placebo effect. This is looked at as some process for validating or invalidating something. Sometimes it is considered just a "fly in the ointment" when sifting through the results and details. However, something quite amazing is at work in that group of people which should be looked at closely and research done to replicate what has happened. That is because the mind and body have worked together to create the same effect as a drug they thought they were taking, they got the results without the drug and the potential side effects. We don't know exactly what is going on, but we do know it happens and what an amazing thing to look into! Of course, if it could be determined what process is taking place that allows your mind and body to work together to create a cure and lot of the billion dollar medicines that the pharmaceutical industries have sunk fortunes into might go belly up, but that is a whole new story there :-). Point though is, here is another process which creates an effect, a result, that we can't exactly quantify and replicate everytime, but we do know it happens.
In the mean time all we can do is use the methods and reap the benefits. We can't describe the nuts and bolts of the process, but we can do it and get the benefits and that puts us way ahead of the scientists that reject it outright.
I hope that has helped some and given you some food for thought and things to ponder.
Sincerely,
Sifu Richard Mieir-King
