Question Hello.
My first system of martial art was jook lum. I switched to loong ying because my teacher at the time moved. I have since re-located to sacramento ca, and would really like to return to my roots in jook lum. Is there a school or teacher that you know of in Sacramento, or in northern CA who would be willing to teach?
Thanks.
Answer Hi Eric,
If you'd asked me this question in the early 90's I could give you a straightforward answer because there was only one school of Jook Lum back then. I've been involved with mantis since the very early 70's and there was only one lineage till the grandmaster's death. Since the death of Grand Master Lum Wing Fay aka Lum Sang there have been many schools that have opened that claim to be a 'secret style' of his. He supposedly started this style in his later years, teaching only one person and telling no others about him, inexplicably undoing a life time of teaching by changing the names of all the techniques and their application. In the early nineties I talked and met the Sifu of these schools and what he was teaching was not what I had ever seen or learned from any of the innergate students of Lum Wing Fay. Now the vast majority of school I see have been founded by him. If nothing else he is good at self promotion.
I don't know who you studied with so I don't know if it's the original Jook Lum or one of these schools that claim to be the new secret style. If you have studied in one actually proven to be descended from Lum or Sifu Mark I would write Sifu Mark at: masterginfoonmark.com and ask him if he has any students out there in your area. If you studied with one of the other schools you can google Jook Lum and get about 15 of these new styles and see if one is around you.
Sorry for the confusion. I wish you success in whatever you do.
Joe
