Question Lab results returned completely normal except 2.1 Bilirubin level. I run app.50 miles per week and understand this can cause the elevation. My Dr. mentioned Gilbert's Syndrome but have no symptoms. He indicated it as being nothing too major but to monitor it when check-up time comes around.
Answer Hi Jeff. I believe that your doctor is doing the right thing, since you have no symptoms, and your bilirubin level is not terribly elevated (normal range is about 0.1 - 1.0). You could have Gilbert's syndrome, which is a benign condition. Gilbert's syndrome typically doesn't require treatment or pose serious complications. Some people with Gilbert's experience episodes of fatigue, weakness and abdominal pain, while others have no symptoms at all (such as in your case). I agree with your doctor in just monitoring your bilirubin level. If it jumps higher, or you start having symptoms, he may want to do further testing.
