Question
My doctor had me give a morning urine sample and bring it
inot the lab in the morning.
He gave me the urine cup, bacterial wipe and also put 2 vials in the bag for me to give to the lab.
What i;d like to know is what are the vials for,one of them had a little tablet in the bottom of it.
What would he be testing for with that one.I thought that you just gave the urine cup and they tested from that.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Debbie, I'd be glad to try and answer your question.  The doctor must want to test you for a UTI - urinary tract infection.  The bacterial wipes are for you to clean yourself (front to back) before you give the specimen.  The reason for the two vials is probably, one is for the actual culture (the one with the tablet - the tablet is probably a preservative, or something to keep the specimen fresh until you get it to the lab) and the other vial is for a urinalysis.  A urinalysis tests for other things other than just an infection, it tests for blood, protein, bilirubin, and pH (among other things).  Once the doctor gets the results, and if they're abnormal, he'll let you know.
