Topic: Lab Tests

Expert: Samantha, MLT (ASCP)
Date: 3/19/2008
Subject: alchohol possitive drug testing

Question
i was tested for drugs because i just got out of prison and am currently in a halfway house. they said i was possitive in my urine sample for alchohol at 0,046 but i did not drink at all what can cause such a thing. i never drak!

Answer
I'd be happy to try and answer your question.  Your alcohol number of 0.046 is about half of what's considered "the legal limit" (for driving) in most states (0.08%).  Something besides alcohol that can cause this is antiseptic mouthwash.  But you would basically have to be drinking it to get a positive alcohol test.  If you don't agree with your test, you could try and ask for a re-test, with the reason you just gave me.
