Question Not sure if you can answer this question but I will ask anyway. My husband had a vasectomy and turned in his second semen sample. The lab we dropped the sample off at ships it to the main lab. The report we got in reference to sperm said "none sen." However, I noticed they did not test the sample until the following day. So the semen sample was almost 24 hours old. Is that okay?
Answer Hi Michelle, I'd be happy to try and answer your question. When the lab checks a post vasectomy semen sample, all they are checking for is the presence of any sperm cells (dead or alive!). So it is OK that the test wasn't performed until the next day. The lab needs to check a semen sample for fertility (a couple trying to conceive) ASAP after collection because they are looking for not only the presence of sperm, but also the motility (how many are "moving"), the volume, temperature, etc. As long as the report says, "None seen", that tells you that there were no sperm observed in your husband's sample, and that's good.
