Question I am a 43 year old Caucasian female.I have recently had routine blood tests done at my GP after I went to visit him because I was experiencing palpitations. My ECG was normal.
In my medical history I had a non ST elevated myocardial infarction 6 months ago.
I have received a letter from my GP surgery saying that my GFR result was slightly low and I should have the test repeated in 3 months. When I rang the surgery they told me the result was 88. Is this something I need to worry about or will going back in 3 months for a repeat test be okay?
Answer Hi Dawn. GFR (Glomular Filtration Rate) is a relatively new way to measure a person's kidney function. It is a calculation based on a person's age, race, and blood creatinine measurement. At the hospital where I work at, the normal range for GFR is 90 or above. Your number is very close to 90, so I wouldn't worry. I'd recommend what your doctor said, go back in 3 months to have it rechecked. They probably want to see if the result dramatically decrease in that time.
