Question
before i had asked you a question about determining if DNA the father is really the father of a baby. and all three people mother, father and baby were to be checked. you had the cost at $400-$1000 us in the usa. i live in thailand the cost is $350 us. for this. there is only one hospital in the whole country that can check dna.

anyways i have a follow up question which is seen as thou i will get this test at this great expense to me. is it possible or advisible to use the dna now gathered on us three for future study such as to determine what diseases any of us could be prone to get? should we save this raw data for later use? on doing this test is there enough info to dtermine for diseaes later on in life? or perhaps additional tests would be needed but perhaps it would be not that more expensive to while this parent thing is being conducting? please advice the best way to go about things? options?

thanking you in advance

Answer
Jii,

Have you talked to your lawyer about ways to get some of the money out of the mother? As far as the DNA goes, there should be enough of the sample left to test you for whatever else you wanted to be tested for. That will cost you additional money,as you know. How much money, I have no idea.
You should think long and hard as to whether or not you want to test yourself and your child for diseases you might get later on. Do you really want to find out that you have the gene for some disease that you don't have right now, but might get later? Just because you have the gene, it doesn't mean that you will get the disease in all cases. Factors, like stress, play a role in gene expression(whether you get the disease).
Well, let me know if you need more info. You can e-mail me directly at: dihydrogen_monoxide_79@yahoo.com.
