Subject: goalie head stringing

Question
I am in the proccess of setting my son up a goalie stick, Warrior Kryptolite and STX Eclipse head. My question is what would be a good stringing setup, and from whom? He is 13 and plans on sticking with the position.

Thank You

Answer
Bryan hello there.  I have a couple of posts on my blog, as well as some answers here on AllExperts that can help you with that.

I use the Eclipse and I have one strung with 10 diamond and the other with 12.  The good news there is that you can basically string them sidewall to sidewall and your good.  I would do three shooting strings spaced about two rows apart.  String the top shooting string as tight as you can make it to start.  When it breaks in it will be perfect.

As far as pocket depth goes if you can find that old post it explains it perfectly.  I actually soak the hard mesh prior to stringing it up. I then put some weights in it overnight to get it nice and deep.

The biggest thing that will help your son's string job in his stick has nothing to do with the stringing and everything to do with his hands. The more time he spends doing wall ball drills and strengthening his hands and forearms the better he will be.  A good stick will help him but a great goalie with great hands can play with a bad stick and still be a great goalie.

Hope that helps Bryan.  There are sixty goalie articles on my blog and my email is there as well.  If I can give you and more help just let me know.  Good luck to your son too.  Where do you guys play?  I look forward to seeing him do great things in the future.
