Question Hey. I have been playing lacrosse for over four years now, and I have played defense from day one. I am a Freshman, going to be a Sophomore after summer, and the thing that concerns me is my size. I am 5'5, and about 140 pounds. My coach has told me that I will grow, and I will become even better of a player if I keep at it. My mother being 5'3 and my father 5'5, it really keeps me at a war against heredity. Question is, am I too small to be playing closed defense at a Varsity level, size wise? It seems playing people a little taller than me is fine, but against 6' and up, 200+ pounds, it gets difficult.
Answer Hello Brett,
I wouldn't worry about it. Definately focus on developing your lower body and core in the weight room. It is all about leg strength and angles when playing closed defense. Plus, coaches have some responsibility of matching up certain players...
Good luck!
