Question Are there resources that teach how to pick up more ground balls with a long pole? Are there drills? My son is 5'9'' and uses a 6' pole. He is pretty good a causing a ground ball but doesen't always pick them up.
Answer Joe the first thing I would do is chop that stick down six inches. He will gain more by having added control over the stick than he will by giving up the six inches in length. This will help him with his ground balls immensely.
Make sure he's choking up on the stick when he is going for ground balls. He shouldn't be trying to pick them up off the end of the stick. When he is throwing and catching his hands should be evenly spaced between the butt end and the head of the stick.
At least cut the stick to his current height. Huge difference.
