Owner of a Discovery. I've had many mishaps with our Disco but I still like this vehicle. Talk to a fellow LR owner instead of a dealership rep. I'm not in this for the money. I'm just an owner who wants to help others.

Land Rover Repair - Transmission Failure Safeguard

Expert: John McInnis - 10/31/2009

Question
I was driving my 2003 Range Rover and the screen displayed Transmission Failure Safeguard. What does that mean? Now the battery light is on!

Answer
Hi Larry,

it indicates that a problem has been detected with the electronic transmission. That your battery warning light is also coming may indicate that the battery is weak and thus impacting your tranny.  It could be just the battery - it could also mean that the battery is not being charged by the alternator.  It could also be an electrical short (harness connector corroded) somewhere and thus the battery is draining and the tranny is being affected.

Have the battery tested and the charging system tested as well. A local garage can do this -  Advance Auto does this as a courtesy to its clients.

IF it is the battery or alt, have it replaced and it should clear up the tranny problem. IF its something else...you'll have to take the RR to a qualified shop with RR experience.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
