About John McInnis
Expertise
Land Rover Discovery. I've had most of the common mechanical failures, altenator, water leaks, wiper failure, door/hinge problems, roof rust, floor rust, loads of electrical problems. Remember, I'm not a dealer or a mechanic, just an owner like most of you.

Experience

Experience
Owner of a Discovery. I've had many mishaps with our Disco but I still like this vehicle. Talk to a fellow LR owner instead of a dealership rep. I'm not in this for the money. I'm just an owner who wants to help others.

Land Rover Repair - Starter Sheild Disco 95

Expert: John McInnis - 4/13/2009

Question
i have a 95 Disco, i had the starter replaced and the shop took the heat sheild off and did not tell me. Do i need this sheild?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rowland,

its there to protect the shield from the intense heat. It can also deflect grit and fluid (to some extent).  On my '95 Disco, the shield must have been loose and it cracked.  I replaced it and suggest you do likewise.

While you're down there, clean the main lead with electronic contact cleaner - you'd be amazed how filthy that wire can get.

Regards,

JohnMc
